Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who runs Southwest Pre & Post-Natal Education and what do you do?

Led by a FEDANT-accredited antenatal and postnatal educator and hypnobirthing instructor, with a professional background in Social Work and PTLLS teaching, our courses offer expert, compassionate support every step of the way.
We offer classes and events to support you from pregnancy through birth and into the postnatal period, covering not just labour and childbirth, but also postnatal recovery, mental wellbeing, newborn care, and more.

When is the right time to book antenatal/postnatal classes?

It’s a good idea to book early, as spaces can fill up quickly — many parents secure their place a few months before their due date. Most people find that attending the main antenatal course during the final 8–10 weeks of pregnancy works really well.

Alongside the full antenatal programme, I also offer a variety of sessions and events suitable throughout pregnancy and into the postpartum period. These are designed so you can join at any stage of your journey — whether you’re newly pregnant, preparing for birth, or already settling in with your baby.

And if you’re later in pregnancy or have already welcomed your little one, you’re still very welcome. My postnatal classes and follow-up support are available whenever you need them.

What topics do you cover in your courses?

Our sessions are comprehensive. We cover:

  • Labour and birth preparation — including physiological, emotional and practical aspects

  • Pain management and coping strategies (e.g. breathing, relaxation, use of mind and body)

  • Postnatal recovery and care — physical recovery, mental health awareness, baby-care basics, feeding, bonding with your baby

  • Emotional wellbeing — preparing mentally and emotionally for birth and parenthood; supporting partners and families

  • Support, community, and informed decision-making — giving parents a space to ask questions, discuss their preferences, and connect with others in a similar journey.

Who can attend — is it just for first-time parents?

No — whether this is your first baby or your fourth, our courses are designed to support all parents. We recognise every pregnancy, birth and family situation is different, so we welcome anyone who wants compassionate guidance and trusted, evidence-based information.

Why is postnatal support so important?

Birth is just one part of your journey — the postnatal period is equally important.
Your physical recovery, emotional wellbeing, feeding choices, bonding, and adjusting to life with a new baby all play a major role in your experience as a parent.
